Professor Marcin Kozakiewicz was one of the leading Polish oral and maxillofacial surgeons, whose scientific achievements, surgical innovations, and dedication to education significantly influenced the development of contemporary cranio-maxillofacial surgery. As Head of the Department of Maxillofacial Surgery in Łódź, he made substantial contributions to facial trauma, reconstructive and orthognathic surgery, orbital reconstruction, computer-assisted surgical planning, and biomedical research. Beyond his scientific accomplishments, Professor Kozakiewicz was a respected mentor who trained numerous young surgeons and established long-standing international collaborations. Following the outbreak of the full-scale war in Ukraine, Professor Kozakiewicz actively supported Ukrainian patients and healthcare professionals. He welcomed Ukrainian surgeons for clinical observerships and scientific exchanges, participated in educational initiatives, and strengthened cooperation between Polish and Ukrainian maxillofacial surgery centers. His final visit to Ukraine, during the ORBIT UKRAINE 2026 scientific meeting, reflected his unwavering commitment to professional collaboration despite the challenges of wartime. This memorial article honors the life and legacy of Professor Marcin Kozakiewicz through a review of his scientific achievements, clinical innovations, educational contributions, support for Ukraine, and personal memories shared by colleagues and friends. His dedication to patients, science, and international cooperation will remain an enduring inspiration for future generations of maxillofacial surgeons.

- Professor Marcin Kozakiewicz was far more than an outstanding oral and maxillofacial surgeon. He was a visionary scientist, an inspiring teacher, a trusted colleague, and a sincere friend. His career demonstrated that true professional excellence is achieved not only through technical mastery and scientific accomplishment, but also through generosity, integrity, compassion, and the willingness to support others.
- His contributions to oral and maxillofacial surgery, his dedication to education, and his commitment to international cooperation — particularly his enduring support for Ukrainian colleagues during one of the most challenging periods in the country’s history — will remain an enduring part of his legacy.
- Although Professor Kozakiewicz is no longer with us, his ideas, his values, and the countless lives he touched will continue to inspire future generations of oral and maxillofacial surgeons.
- His legacy lives on in the people he taught, the friendships he created, and the science he advanced.
